What is Surgical Orthodontics?
How Does Surgical Orthodontics Work?
The first step in the surgical orthodontic process is a consultation with a trained orthodontist, like those at RRC Orthodontics. The orthodontist will evaluate your jaw and teeth and determine if surgical orthodontic treatment is necessary.
If surgical orthodontics is recommended, the orthodontist will work closely with an oral surgeon to develop a comprehensive treatment plan. The treatment plan will involve braces or other orthodontic appliances to prepare the teeth for surgery.
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes several hours. The surgeon will reposition the jawbones during the surgery to improve the patient’s bite and facial appearance. Once the surgery is complete, the patient must wear braces for some time to finish aligning the teeth and ensure the best possible results.
