Meet Dr. Kenneth Carter

Dr. Carter was born and raised in Chicago, IL. He credits his mother for cultivating his love for learning and emphasizing the importance of education. Dr. Carter has always been deeply fascinated by the functions and intricacies of the human body. From a young age he knew he wanted to become a doctor; however, it wasn't until college that he developed his passion for dentistry.

Dr. Carter attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison on a full-tuition academic and leadership scholarship for his undergraduate studies, where he graduated with degrees in both Biology and Psychology. After college, he spent the next year between Atlanta, GA, and Cincinnati, OH where he assessed occupational exposure banding techniques and hazard coding at the CDC-NIOSH.

In May of 2020, Dr. Carter graduated with honors and obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. He went on to pursue his orthodontic training at the University of Michigan where he received his Master of Science in Orthodontics. Dr. Carter is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (board certified orthodontist) and guest lecturer at several academic institutions.

Since beginning his journey into dentistry, Dr. Carter has succeeded academically while serving in several extracurricular activities to promote social, cultural, educational, and health equity. He has served as the sole student representative for the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee in the American Dental Education Association, the president of the Meharry chapter of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry, committee board member for the University of Michigan-School of Dentistry dean search committee, participated in multiple dental mission trips throughout Tennessee and Kingston, Jamaica, while serving as a mentor to high school, college, and predoctoral students. Dr. Carter maintains memberships in the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), Midwestern Society of Orthodontists (MSO), American Dental Association (ADA), National Dental Association (NDA), and Illinois State Dental Society (ISDS).

Dr. Carter knows there are a host of factors that contribute to an individual’s self-confidence, not the least of which is an esthetically pleasing smile. Additionally, he believes more than teeth should be aligned during orthodontic care. His goal is to assist his patients bridge the gap between the mind and body to achieve true function, health, and harmony throughout treatment. At RRC Orthodontics, Dr. Carter works with a very capable team to serve the community in achieving this goal. When he is not in the office, Dr. Carter enjoys spending time with family and friends, exercising, traveling, and horseback riding.
